A cloud kitchen POS needs four things: unified Swiggy/Zomato/WhatsApp orders in one screen, kitchen tickets (KOT), daily sales and GST reports, and simple stock or recipe tracking. Expect Rs 500–4,000 per month. Under 30 orders a day a free WhatsApp + spreadsheet setup is fine; above that, a POS with native aggregator integration pays for itself in saved hours and missed orders.
What a cloud kitchen actually needs from a POS
A delivery-only kitchen has no dine-in tables, no floor plan and no captain. So half of a "restaurant POS" is dead weight. The must-haves:
- Aggregator integration: Swiggy, Zomato and Magicpin orders land in one queue automatically — no re-typing orders from a tablet while the biryani burns.
- KOT (kitchen order ticket): every order — app, WhatsApp or phone — prints or displays in the kitchen with item modifiers ("no onion", "extra spicy").
- Menu and price management: change a price or mark an item out-of-stock once, and it updates everywhere — the single biggest time-saver.
- Reports: daily sales by channel, top items, and a GST-ready bill export your CA will love.
- Inventory/recipe tracking: knows that 12 biryanis = 3 kg chicken, so you prep before you run out. Nice-to-have, but transformative once order volume justifies it.
What you can skip
- Table management and QR dine-in ordering (no tables)
- CRM and loyalty modules — a WhatsApp broadcast list does this free (see our WhatsApp guide)
- Multi-outlet dashboards until you actually have multiple outlets
Choose by order volume
- Under 30 orders/day: WhatsApp Business + a Google Sheet for expenses works. Your time is better spent on food quality and packaging.
- 30–100 orders/day: an entry POS (Rs 500–1,500/month) with aggregator integration and KOT. This is where missed and mis-punched orders start costing real money.
- 100+ orders/day or multi-brand: a full suite with recipe-level inventory, wastage tracking and outlet-level P&L. At this volume the Rs 3,000/month suite is rounding error against a 2% stock saving.
Questions to ask before signing up
- Is Swiggy/Zomato integration native, or do you route through a third party like UrbanPiper (which bills separately)?
- What happens when the internet drops — is there an offline mode?
- Does the plan include aggregator integration, or is it a paid add-on?
- Can I export sales data as CSV if I leave?
- Is there a monthly contract or an annual lock-in?
Setup tips that save headaches
- Load your menu with photos and modifiers before going live on the POS — retrofitting modifiers mid-service is chaos.
- Print KOTs even if you also show them on screen; paper doesn't crash.
- Reconcile aggregator settlements against POS reports weekly. Discrepancies of 1–2% are common and recoverable only if you catch them.
- Track commissions per channel in the same sheet — it will make the case for direct WhatsApp orders on its own. See commission rates.
How POS fits the bigger stack
A POS is one of four tools that matter for a delivery kitchen: a POS for operations, a set of ordering and delivery apps, accounting software for GST, and a listing on Cloud Kitchen Adda for customers searching for kitchens in their city. Everything else is optional.
