Delivery branding lives in four places: the name (simple, spellable, searchable), the app listing (logo, 5–6 bright photos, a clear cuisine promise), the packaging (a branded sticker and a thank-you card turn every box into an ad), and consistency (same logo, colours and taste every time). Budget Rs 2,000–5,000 for a logo, use free tools for everything else, and trademark the name in Class 43 once orders justify it.
Start with the name
Your name has to work in three seconds on a phone screen, sandwiched between twenty competitors. Rules that hold up:
- Two to four words, easy to spell — customers type it into Swiggy's search bar and Google. "Madras Biryani House" beats "Dastkaarchee Culinaire" every time.
- Say what you sell — a cuisine word in the name ("Bombay Momos Co.") pre-qualifies customers and helps app search.
- Leave room to grow — "Hyderabad Biryani Express" can't sell pizzas; "The Tandoor Project" can. Our name ideas guide has 100+ worked examples.
- Check availability first: the app search, an Instagram handle, a .com/.in domain, and a quick trademark search on the IP India site.
The listing is your storefront
On Swiggy and Zomato, your "shopfront" is the listing card and photo strip. The basics that move conversion:
- A simple logo — one mark, two colours, readable at thumbnail size. Freelance designers deliver this for Rs 2,000–5,000.
- Six to eight food photos, natural light, shot on the packaging you actually use. See our delivery food photography guide.
- A one-line promise — "Slow-cooked Hyderabadi dum biryani, delivered hot" — not a paragraph about your passion.
- Consistent identity across channels — same logo and colours on Swiggy, Zomato, your Google Business Profile and Instagram. Fragmented branding reads as amateur.
Packaging is your billboard
A Rs 3 branded sticker on a plain box does more branding work than a Rs 30 custom-printed box ever needs to. Include:
- Your logo and a one-line tagline on the sticker.
- A thank-you card with a WhatsApp number and a reorder offer — this is the single highest-ROI insert in food delivery, because it converts app customers into direct repeat customers (see the WhatsApp ordering guide).
- A QR code to your Google review page or listing.
For packaging types, materials and costs per order, read the India packaging guide.
Taste consistency is the brand
All of the above fails if Tuesday's biryani differs from Friday's. Protect the brand with written recipes, a planned menu, standard portion scoops, and one person accountable for quality before dispatch. Customers forgive a 20-minute delay; they don't forgive a different-tasting dish.
Trademark and protect it
- File in Class 43 (food services) — Rs 4,500 online for individuals/MSMEs, via a CA or IP professional if you want help.
- Adding packaged products later (masalas, frozen items)? File in Classes 29 and 30 too.
- Keep dated records of your brand name in use — packaging photos, invoices, listing screenshots — for any future dispute.
Grow the brand beyond the apps
- Google Business Profile: the second place customers find you; keep the same name, photos and menu.
- Instagram: 2–3 reels a week of cooking, packing and behind-the-scenes; local hashtags and location tags outperform polished ads.
- A listing on discovery platforms: get on Cloud Kitchen Adda so customers searching for kitchens in your city find your brand directly — with your WhatsApp order button, not just an app link.
- Second brands, not diluted ones: when you expand, launch a separate virtual brand for the new cuisine rather than stretching one name over biryani and brownies.
Budget summary
- Logo + brand kit (freelancer): Rs 2,000–5,000
- Packaging stickers + thank-you cards (1,000 units): Rs 1,500–3,000
- Food photo shoot (phone + daylight, self-shot): Rs 0
- Trademark application: Rs 4,500 per class
That's a complete brand for under Rs 15,000 — less than a month of aggregator commission for most kitchens, and it compounds forever.
